Abstract

Synovial chondromatosis is an unusual condition of metaplastic and focal formation of cartilage in the intimal layer of synovial membrane.
It is otherwise referred to Osteo-chondromatosis, Synovial chondromosis, joint chondroma or Diffuse enchondroma of the ioint capsule.
We experienced two cases of synovial chondromatosis which involved the hip and the ankle joint respectively. The X-ray study revealed multiple calcified or ossified loose bodies in both cases. Each case was treated with complete removal of loose bodies and synovectomy.
Both patients were full ambulatory and there was no evidence of recurrence.
